What are nootropic pouches?

Oral pouches you tuck under your top lip, made with ingredients like caffeine, L-theanine or citicoline instead of nicotine. "Nootropic" describes the ingredients, not a promised result. Most contain caffeine, Flint included. If you want one without caffeine, check the label, because Flint isn't it.

What's in Flint, and at what dose?

Per pouch: 100mg caffeine, 100mg L-theanine, 100mg Cognizin® citicoline, 3mg pantothenic acid, 0.7mg vitamin B6, 100µg folate and 1.25µg vitamin B12. Each vitamin is at 50% NRV. No nicotine, no proprietary blend. Every one of those numbers is printed on the tin.

What is Cognizin®?

A branded form of citicoline, made by Kyowa Hakko Bio. Citicoline is a compound your body also makes. Published Cognizin® trials used 250mg to 500mg a day for 28 days or longer (for example McGlade et al., 2012). One Flint pouch has 100mg, so 3 a day gives you 300mg, inside that range. At 1 or 2 a day you're below it.

Why 1:1 caffeine to L-theanine?

Most published trials of the two together used more L-theanine than caffeine, often about 2:1 (for example Owen et al., 2008). The closest we found used 200mg L-theanine with 160mg caffeine (Kahathuduwa et al., 2017). Flint matches them at 100mg each. That's our choice, not a copy of a trial, and we'd rather tell you than hide the gap.

Why is there no Lion's Mane, Alpha-GPC or Bacopa?

Each one was left out for a reason. Alpha-GPC has no EU novel food authorisation. Lion's Mane, Bacopa and Rhodiola don't absorb through the gum, so a pouch is the wrong format for them. Uridine monophosphate was left out over regulatory uncertainty.

What do the B-vitamins do?

Pantothenic acid contributes to normal mental performance. Vitamins B6 and B12, folate and pantothenic acid contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and folate contribute to normal psychological function. Each is at 50% NRV per pouch.

Are nootropic pouches legit?

Some are, some aren't, and the label tells you which. Look for a dose per ingredient, not one total for a "blend". Compare those doses with what published trials used. And check the ingredients are allowed in the EU: Alpha-GPC, for example, has no novel food authorisation. Flint prints every dose so you can run those checks yourself.

Is Zyn a nootropic?

No. Zyn is a nicotine pouch, and it isn't sold as a nootropic. Flint is nicotine-free. Its actives are caffeine, L-theanine and Cognizin®, 100mg each. More on the difference on the nicotine-free pouches page.
